The history of our hotel in Kaltenbach

40 years of holiday hospitality in the Zillertal valley

2015 - 2021

We expanded the lobby and were awarded a 3-star superior classification. In 2017, Michael and his wife Elke took over the family business. As a passionate chef, he opened the Restaurant ‘Liebstöckl’ in 2019. Our herb philosophy is becoming ever more present and reached its culmination with the latest big renovation project in 2021.  The 18 new herb rooms, warm colours and charming details never fail to charm guests.

2011 - 2015

The guesthouse was transformed into a modern 3-star hotel. The wellness area was extended and the kitchen underwent a complete renovation. We were awarded the AMA gastro quality seal for certified product origins, laying the foundations for our current philosophy. The herb garden was expanded further and the first herb rooms were built. The awarding of our official ‘BEWUSST TIROL’ (Tyrol conscious) status confirms that we are certainly on the right path with this philosophy.

2007 - 2010

Acquisition of the parental private residence, the merging of the two buildings and a comprehensive renovation. A bio sauna, infra-red cabin and relaxation room were all added to the sauna area. We focus on sustainability and switching over to a modern pellet heating system was just the beginning of this process.

1994 - 2002

The stone pine lounge, storage rooms and equipment were all completely destroyed following a storm and subsequent flooding in 1994. The following years were defined by regular redevelopment and expansion work but more floods struck again in 2002. Everything was destroyed yet again and it was only thanks to assistance from kind-hearted neighbours and guests that we were able to regain our strength.

1985 - 1992

Substantial expansion and redevelopment work took place during this period. New rooms, a modern ski cellar, a Tyrolean stone pine parlour and a Finnish sauna were added for the guests. The restaurant and associated kitchen were also extended.

1979 - 1980

The foundations for the hotel were paid by parents Josef & Annemarie along with Franz & Maria Platzer who took over operation of the ‘Hochzillertal’ café-inn with 24 beds at the end of the 70s. Due to high demand, the à la carte restaurant was added a year later.
