One of the most beautiful hiking areas in Tyrol and Austria begins right outside the door of the 4-star Kräuterhotel Hochzillertal. Across around 1,400 kilometres of marked hiking trails, you can discover flowering alpine meadows, fragrant forests, crystal-clear mountain streams and impressive peaks. Whether a leisurely walk through alpine meadows, a scenic hike to a mountain hut or a challenging mountain tour – everyone will find their own favourite trail in the Zillertal.
The special location of our hotel makes it easy: Simply lace up your hiking boots and set off. Many routes start directly from the hotel and lead you right into nature. Along the way, rustic alpine huts invite you to take a leisurely break with regional specialities and genuine Tyrolean hospitality.

A special highlight of your hiking holiday in Austria is the guided hikes with senior proprietor Josef. As a qualified mountain and hiking guide, he will show you his personal favourite spots, share interesting facts about the region and turn every tour into an unforgettable experience in nature. Guided herb walk at the Kräuterhotel Hochzillertal
Experience nature with all your senses
Herbs are at the heart of our hotel. On our weekly herb walk, our herb expert will introduce you to the fascinating world of local medicinal and wild herbs. Learn how to identify plants safely, understand their beneficial properties and rediscover traditional herbal knowledge.
Once a week during the summer season, we take you on an enjoyable journey through nature - from the herb garden to the meadows and forests around the hotel.
What to expect:
- Welcome and introduction to our own herb garden
- Guided herb walk with identification and gathering of local wild herbs
- Interesting facts about the healing properties, uses and traditions of local herbs
- Herb workshop at the hotel: Together, we make herb salt, ointments or balms from the plants we have gathered
- Tasting of delicious herbal specialities - from wild herb salad and homemade spreads to refreshing herbal lemonade
- Our herbal ABC with recipes and practical herbal knowledge to take home
- Start: 9.00 am
End: approx. 12.00 pm
Registration takes place at reception.
- The herb walk is free of charge for our hotel guests. Herb enthusiasts from outside the hotel and local residents are also very welcome and can take part for a contribution towards costs of €20.00 per person.
